Crime and Punishment
Write a minimum of 6 sentences on whether you think the death penalty is right or wrong. Be prepared to defend you choice in class
Examples
Against
I think the death penalty is wrong because killing people is immoral. Only god has the right to judge people in this way. Also there have been many cases when people were put to death and it was later found out that they were innocent. This is a barbaric form of punishment that is outlawed in most of the modern world. Also in modern times most prisons are inescapable so prisoners can be kept securely behind bars making killing them unnecessary. In addition if people could study these killers it would benefit modern society.
For
In modern times the technology exists so that those who are found guilty of capital crimes such as murder or conspiracy to commit murder are guild beyond a reasonable doubt. By using DNA those found guilty of murder can be positively identified. Also mass murders and serial killers can not be reformed and the risk of keeping them alive it to high. Many murders are very intelligent and have the ability to get past prison security or obtain help from the outside to get out. In addition people like Charles Mason and others have the power to get other people to do their bidding and if kept alive could get others to kill people for them while they are behind bars. These people who are convicted using DNA, fingerprint and other physical evidence are guild beyond a reasonable doubt and should be humanly put down for the safety of society.
